Vitamins May Help Fight Hair Loss

Loss of hair or baldness is often referred to as alopecia. Alopecia totalis means loss of all the scalp hair, while alopecia unviersalis means loss of all body hair, including eyebrows and eyelashes. If hair falls out in patches, it is termed alopecia areata. This condition is temporary and does not usually lead to baldness. Heredity, hormones, and aging are all factors that are involved in hair loss. Researchers have not yet determined the exact cause of hair loss, but some scientists believe the body’s immune system mistakes hair follicles for foreign tissue and attacks them. On the other hand, many suspect that hair loss is simply a genetic component.

A less dramatic, but much more prevalent type of hair loss is androgenic alopecia (AGA), which is also known as male pattern baldness. AGA is extremely common in men. As the name implies, a genetic or hereditary predisposition to the disorder and the presence of androgens, which are male sex hormones, are involved in this condition. Research has shown that the hair follicles of individuals who are susceptible to AGA may have receptors that are programmed to slow down or shut off hair production once they are influenced by androgens.

Women can also experience the same type of hair loss. However, it is usually not as extensive and most often does not occur until after menopause. All women experience some form of hair thinning as they grow older, especially after menopause. With some, it begins as early as puberty. Additionally, most women lose some hair two or three months after having a baby since hormonal changes prevent normal hair loss during pregnancy.

Demodex follicularum, a species of tiny mite, may be the cause of, or at least a contributing factor, to balding. These mites are present in almost all hair follicles by the time a person reaches middle age. In most cases, these mites cause no harm. Researchers believe that the difference between people who lose their hair and those who do not may be in how the scalp reacts to the presence of these mites. If the body initiates the inflammatory response as it tries to reject the mites, this can close down the hair follicles, which in turn, kill the mites and also kill the hair.

Additionally, hereditary factors that promote hair loss include poor circulation, acute illness, surgery, radiation exposure, skin disease, sudden weight loss, high fever, iron deficiency, diabetes, thyroid disease, drugs such as those used in chemotherapy, stress, poor diet, ringworm and other fungal infections, stress, chemicals such as hair dyes, and vitamin deficiencies.

The following nutrients are considered to be very important for dealing with and preventing hair loss: essential fatty acids, raw thymus glandular, vitamin B complex, vitamin C with bioflavonoids, vitamin E, zinc, coenzyme Q10, DMG, and kelp. Additionally, the following nutrients are helpful in dealing with hair loss: copper, grape seed extract, l-cysteine, MSM, and silica. The following herbs can also help prevent and deal with hair loss: apple cider vinegar, sage tea, ginkgo biloba, horsetail, green tea, pygeum, saw palmetto, and tea tree oil.

With proper diet, nutrition, and dietary supplements, one can rule out whether hair loss is dietary verses hormonal or fungal. Some supplements like evening primrose and omega-3 can help regulate inflammation hormones and hormones that can affect the immune system and hair follicles. Your local or internet health food store can better help you select the right products for each persons hair needs.

A Gem of a Treatment

by Mark A Huxley

Crystals and other precious stones have been held in high regard for centuries for their healing effects on the human body. Now scientists are combining them with modern technology and achieving some remarkable feats.

When Les, a 40 year old man, broke down in tears before work in the Summer of 1990, his mother was so concerned for his health that she insisted he go straight into hospital. "I just couldn't stand the pain any more," he admits. Les had been having headaches for six months but his doctor told him it was just a sinus problem.

Les was diagnosed with an advanced brain tumour and given a week to live unless they performed an operation immediately. After a nine-and-a-half hour operation, Les was left with his left side paralysed and with almost no vision.

Les was out of work, needed constant help for dressing, eating and bathing, was unable to sleep properly and was having panic attacks.

Then his friend suggested he see a remarkable man called Harry Oldfield, who was having amazing results with his healing machines. Les started having regular treatments of a complementary therapy called Electro-Crystal Therapy.

Oldfield, like other crystal healers, believes that gems give off vibrations, or frequencies, which influence our physical and emotional well-being. After 20 years of research into the field he has developed an advanced form of crystal healing. His machines pulse electromagnetic energy at different frequencies through a selection of crystals. "They provide a vibration which is like an electrical massage," says Oldfield. Harry likens the human body to a piano which has gone out of tune. The crystal treatment units act like a tuning fork whose resonance helps bring the body back into tune.

Back to Les. After a few sessions things started to really improve. "When I first went to see him I had to be carried in," reports Les. "Later I was able to walk on my own."

Natural Allergy Remedies

Millions of people are suffering from allergies, and many are searching for natural allergy remedies, as they don’t want to take medications that can make them feel worse.

Common Allergies

* Common food allergies are ones such as nuts, wheat, milk, eggs and soy.

* Chemical allergies to the multitude of chemicals in our cleaners, soaps, plastics and perfumes.

* Environmental allergies to things like mold, dust mites, pollens, pet dander, grass and weeds

* Drug and medication allergies

* Allergies to insect bites and stings.

So you could say that the basic allergy categories are contact, food or inhalant allergies.

Allergy reactions can run in the range of mild, intermediate or severe. Mild may be a runny nose or water eyes. Moderate allergies may include rashes and itching. On the severe end may be allergy asthma or anaphylactic shock, in which the throat closes up.

Allergies can hold you back from doing many of the things that you want to do, or eat. Read on to find some answers.

Natural Allergy Remedies

Since many are trying to avoid antihistamines and decongestants, because of the side effects one an have, they are looking for natural allergy remedies.

Therapies

Lets talk about therapies for Allergies. As a health practitioner, I use therapies such as Body Talk, Total Body Modification therapy and others to assist the body to reset and overcome allergies.

Worth mentioning is an additional therapy - Dr. Devi Nambutripad has developed a therapy known as NAET, that many people swear by for allergy alleviation, often on a permanent basis.

All these work with your energetic system and the energy meridians known as acupuncture meridians.

Your energy systems become blocked, over or under energized and this sets your body up for intolerance that manifest as allergies. These same problems in the meridians can manifest as a number of illnesses, pain and malfunction. But in this case, lets stick with the allergies.

When corrections are made it involves holding a substance, or a vial of a homeopathic derivative of the substance while energy/acupuncture points are stimulated. The body resets itself and can overcome the allergies.

For some therapies, you are asked to avoid the substance you are allergic to for a time, and for other therapies, you can often handle them, eat them or be around them right away.

I would suggest one of these therapies as first choice in getting rid of your allergies and allergy symptoms.

Herbal And Homeopathic Allergy Remedies

If you cannot start seeing someone for allergy therapy, I would suggest using a homeopathic or homeopathic/herbal remedy such as the one below. It is easy to use and helps relieve many of the major symptoms.

Solutions For Overcoming Bodybuilding Failures

By : Dane Fletcher 14 or more times read

Many people have engaged in the body building field and they have been either succeeding while others have ended up disappointed. This is because of the varied approaches which these different people take. The approaches give them a guide to achieving what they have set in mind and this is what comes in as the end result. Some people choose a good route but loose track on the way leading to failure. Here is a solution for the many failures in body building to make them finally dance in celebrations for the rekindling of the lost glory.

One thing that makes you fail in body building is the base which you build in your body building. Mostly, many people start wrongly in body building and this is where they loose the theme of perfect body building. The first step to a good base is having outlined and well described individual goals. These goals are generally the roots of any body building routine. Without a goal, the entire process is a hoax and there will be no specific route to follow and the end result will always be figure. Take time and think about your reason for joining body building and get goals which are reasonable and attainable at the same time.

Every action you take from there must therefore be guided by the goals you first set. You need to first get a good work plan as a body builder before even thinking about any kind of training to engage in. this work plan is a direct copy of the goals to be achieved and must be well structured to fulfill the promise of your final vision. Let the work plan be the next guide to working out other than doing it in an unprofessional way.

A bad start is also a cause of failure in your body building. Body building just like any other life matter, requires that you have a good start which is gradual and progressive. But for many of the body builders, who fail, they start with a lot of vim and they die off in the middle of the training period where all the energy is required to make the performance of all routines possible. Get a slow start and move steadily as you increase the intensity until you reach your climax.

The other major reason why you fail in body building is because of lack of confidence in whatever you do. You already have goals yet you still go for other peoples views of a particular training. Mostly, you will find that, after you have started body building, what is needed more is a concentration of what you know and perfecting the routine making it look better and produce the best results. Remember that other people's opinion could be very misleading and they are not supposed to be used to compromise any of your approaches. Just be faithful and devoted to all that you do and this is what will help you make the best out of it, giving you the desired results.

What to Look for in Anti-Wrinkle Face Creams?

Eventually time and life catches up to us whether we want it to or not. The most noticeable perhaps of this occurrence is in the face. Why does this happen? Over years, the skin ages and becomes drier and thinner. The skin covering the neck, face, back of the hands and tops of the forearms tend to be the most exposed to the elements of life and show the most wear and wrinkles appear quicker and with more of them than the rest of the body. Sun damage causes the most havoc on skin, but is a natural process regardless of the sun for all humans.

Many people are looking for ways to reverse the process, wishing for younger skin that was smooth, wrinkle-free and smooth. Many people also find out that companies selling products on the market are more interested in making money than in selling a real product to help restore the skin. So is there anything available for purchase that actually works?

Beautiful skin may not be able to miraculously return to a person with any product but there are products available to help condition and improve the skin and show less signs of aging. There are some areas to look for when in the market for purchasing an anti-wrinkle cream. The right combination of active ingredients that work together can retrieve beautiful skin. Here is a list of ingredients that have been scientifically formulated synergistically to optimally work to combat wrinkles.

Maracuja - a passion fruit extract from Brazil. This extract naturally softens the skin and with the use of linolenic acid, regulates sebum production in order to avoid the skin from getting too oily or too dry. Maracuja nourishes and adds a velvety and smooth feel to the skin.

Grapeseed oil - is a oil produced by pressing the seeds of grapes. Grapeseed oil has a powerful antioxidant with a high content of fatty acids, that will add a layer on the skin to hold in the moisture and repairs the skin.

Babassu palm wax - the babassu palm is native to Brazil and found in the Amazon. It works on many levels - to soften the skin, keeps out impurities and locks out moisture with a protective layer on the surface of the skin.

Vitamin E - combats the free radicals in the skin and their damaging effects from the environment, UV rays from the sun, poor dietary nutrition and unpreventable aging through the anti-oxidant properties. It also reduces the amount of wrinkles to appear and lessens the appearances of age spots. Some products use a synthetic version of Vitamin E that can be less effective, look for a product that contains alpha-tocopherol acetate which is the natural form of Vitamin E.

Wakame - a Japanese sea kelp that is nutritionally rich in minerals and vitamins naturally. It helps to keep the skin healthy, firm and moisture-balanced. It also prevents the breakdown of an acid in the skin that maintains the youthful appearance in skin.

Co-enzyme Q10 - increases elastin production and collagen in the skin, reduces wrinkles dramatically and nourishes the skin with antioxidants. As mentioned above antioxidants work to inhibit the damages caused by free radicals. A particular type of co-enzyme Q10, by the name of Nano-Lipobelle H-EQ10, penetrates the skin deeper to more effectively work than the other types.

Keratin - is similar to a natural protein found in the skin and helps to mimic it to improve regenerating skin cells as well as the regrowth of collagen and elastin. This is a key ingredient to look for in an anti-wrinkle cream product for a result in improved elasticity, smoothness and a softer, even complexion.

High Cholesterol Foods to Avoid

By : Andrew Bicknell
Submitted 2009-02-23 08:26:15
For those who suffer from high cholesterol the best and first way to control and lower their cholesterol levels is through their diet. But many people are confused as to what constitutes a high cholesterol food they need to avoid and a low cholesterol food. This is because there is a difference between dietary cholesterol and blood cholesterol.

Generally most health guidelines recommend that dietary cholesterol not exceed 300 mg per day for most healthy people, but if one suffers from high LDL blood cholesterol levels then this intake should be not more than 200 mg per day.

Cholesterol, a waxy like substance, is only found in animal meat and tissues and its sources include red meat, eggs, fish, poultry, and dairy products. On the flip side any food derived from plant sources is cholesterol free, including high fat plants food sources such as avocado's and peanut butter. This is where the confusion usually happens because eating large amounts of vegetable oil, which is virtually 100% food fat, can significantly raise blood cholesterol levels, particularly when eaten with high cholesterol foods.

The fact is that blood LDL cholesterol levels are highly influenced by the amount of saturated fat that one eats. There is a relationship between the amounts of saturated fat one eats the LDL cholesterol levels in the blood. For every one percent increase in calories obtained by eating saturated fat, blood cholesterol levels go up around two percent. Conversely for every one percent decrease in saturated fat intake cholesterol levels will reduce about two percent.

The thing to remember when it comes avoiding high cholesterol foods is that while doing so will decrease LDL cholesterol levels, reducing saturated fat intake has a bigger impact on these levels then many people are aware of. This does not mean that those who suffer from high cholesterol can eat high cholesterol foods, but they should be aware that there is more to reducing cholesterol then just this one thing.

The reason for this confusion with the way cholesterol can increase in the blood stream is the way many foods are cooked and/or served. Let's look at one of everyone's favorite breakfasts; bacon/sausage and eggs. We all know that eggs are high in cholesterol, but what we don't know is that the cholesterol in eggs has a small impact on blood cholesterol levels. It's the high amount of saturated fat in the bacon or sausage that has a far larger impact on LDL cholesterol levels.

Another culprit is deep fat fried foods. Many foods are for the most part harmless until they are breaded and fried in hot oil. In fact, many fish and seafood choices are considered to be good for us because of the omega-3 fatty acids that they contain, but as soon as they are deep fried and eaten any benefits are cancelled by the saturated fat that raises bad LDL cholesterol.

When it comes to high cholesterol foods to avoid it is important to remember that these types of food aren't necessarily bad in and of themselves if eaten in moderation. The real problem occurs when they are combined with high levels of saturated fat, which has a more profound effect on blood cholesterol levels.

How Suggestible Are You?

By : Roseanna Leaton 29 or more times read
Submitted 2009-06-24 13:35:05 I had a conversation the other evening with a group of people who all work in the same firm and in which several colleagues had all lost significant amounts of weight and had kept it off. I asked how they had got started on this course of action. The answer, which everyone was in agreement with, was that one particular person had started to lose weight and was about 20 pounds lighter than before; everyone began to comment upon how good he looked and then one colleague said he would do it too...then the other's said "if you're doing it, I'll do it too". A reference was made to the "herd instinct".

That's how it all began. Everyone who joined this group has lost weight and kept if off - EVERYONE. Now that is, I have to say, unusual. Clearly the first person, the leader, inspired a great deal of confidence within the group. I do not know them well enough to know what dynamics were at work, but it is interesting to conjecture what might have happened...

Perhaps this "weight loss leader" was someone who was particularly well respected in general, someone who everybody looked up to and tried to emulate. Perhaps this was not the case; maybe this "weight loss leader" was actually a REALLY overweight person, who had tried every diet under the sun and failed in the past, and in losing weight now made everyone think "If he can do it, I DEFINITELY can". You can see now how diverse the underlying dynamics could be, but whatever they were, they worked.

What is also demonstrated is how suggestible we all are, provided we are given the right suggestion. A stage hypnotist knows only too well how to put the human instinct for suggestibility to work. A stage hypnotist will pick the most highly suggestible subject to perform the first "trick" and then work in order from one person to another in accordance with their initial levels of suggestibility. As each person is seen responding to the hypnotist's suggestion the following person's suggestibility is raised. And so by the end, the least suggestible subject will become as suggestible as the first subject to be picked. That person's belief in the hypnotist's ability is raised, bit by bit, simply by observing the others reactions.

The bottom line is that we are all suggestible, given the correct stimulus. I wish I had a dollar for every person who over the years has booked a hypnotherapy session and upon arrival their opening announcement was "I don't know if this will work as I know I'm not suggestible". As a hypnotherapist, my job is to work out what is the right "hook" for each person. This job is quite often done before the client arrives; for example, if a heavy smoker has been for a hypnotherapy session and stopped easily, then everyone they tell expects it to work for them, just as if a "larger" person has lost a lot of weight encourages everyone else to think that they can do it too.

And so when asked the question of how suggestible you are, the answer is that you are as suggestible as you want to be. It boils down to expectation and desire. We are all inherently suggestible which is witnessed in the way in which we pick up our native tongue, and learn so many things simply by imitating and copying. We are suggestible in things such as clothing fashion, hair style, and choice of career. Every human being is extraordinarily suggestible!

How Do The Professional Bodybuilders Make It In Competitions?

From one competition to another, many people make it to be the winners while others still never see the finals. This is because; body building is diverse and has very many elements which lead either to success or failure depending on the approach you take for your routine workouts. When you perfect your own routine, there is a high probability that you will be a winner as compared to those people who tend to gamble in this profession. This article is meant to give you tips of how the winner's mange to be scooping the top awards all the time.

The winners of body building competitions are well organized and they use focused movements which are big to ensure that they perfect in their training. Pushing, squatting, walking, pulling, and lunges are well administered by the body builder to push their bodies to the extreme and ensuring that they can easily manage to develop and tone the appropriately. The workouts are also designed effectively in that they are well outlined to serve muscle development in a perfect way.

Explosiveness and full exercises is also n element used by the various winners of body building competitions. Many winners will tell you that, they never had a good time in body building from the word go and this was sustained for long. When you get in the exercises, you are supposed to be like a workaholic and be well defined in terms of what you do. Training in every workout should be sustained until the muscle feel the strain and this is what gives them a better challenge to develop so as to make it to the finals.

Apart from working out hard and feeding on the right types of foods, body builders also generate power from their own by making it look like fun and enjoying what they do. If at all you see body building as an enjoyable activity, even the worst moments can be received with the entire psyche needed. When body building becomes a part of you, there no secret that you will endure bad as well as good times and this will all be handled properly if you get to take like an interesting activity. Remember that body building can at times be monotonous and boredom can be a key element unless you know the appropriate way to handle it.

For one, to make it in body building you have to be devoted. This is in the sense that you are not swayed by simple issues and you are able to handle the various elements properly without fear. If you have to be a winner, there is no short rather than to show some element of confidence in you. This is what the winners do, by providing to the judges how smart they are and it ends up being that they can outsmart the others in the game. This is by giving the right posture and appearance as they walk past the judges and making it real in their attempt to impress.
